Making Scrabble a Fun, Active, Outdoor Activity for Kids

Word games are so much fun, but even better when you can super-size them and play them in your backyard. It will take a little bit of time to actually create the pieces for jumbo outdoor scrabble, but totally worth it. We’ve seen specifications online for this game that include heading down to your local hardware store and getting pieces of wood. We are going to suggest that you keep it simple and just use card stock to create your letters. If you have a laminator, even better. Laminate all your cards so they are sturdier and last longer.

Click here to download the scrabble letters. Print them out on letter size card stock on your home printer. See below for how many of each letter you will need. Don't forget to print 2 blank tiles. Cut them down to size (8 1/2”x 8 1/2”). Since you won’t have a jumbo scrabble board to play on you will have to play freestyle scrabble without the double and triple words and letters. Regardless, it will be awesome!

There are 100 tiles that are used in the game and 98 of them will contain letters and point values. There are 2 blank tiles that can be used as wild tiles to take the place of any letter. When a blank is played, it will remain in the game as the letter it substituted for.
